You can’t get away from it

You know, you just can’t get away from the Bush-bashing. It’s everywhere, and most of it is in the background.

I’m currently reading River Of Gods, by Ian McDonald (who’s a Belfast fella, according to the webshite). And it’s a good read, although there are bits that are just odd.

But then there’s a bit stuck in the middle:

I don’t think I could have stayed in the States. I like to think that I’d have been tough and noble under persecution, like Chomsky in the Bush Wars…

Oh yes. Cos that’s exactly how it’s happening. The Bush Wars and total persecution of Noam Chomsky.

It’s things like that that do their best to spoil otherwise great books.

  1. Chomsky was persecuted? Someone should point out to him that being called a twat for acting like a twat is not persecution, it’s honesty.

Or did I miss the memo that said that self-appointed intellectuals not being listened to by the President of the USA is the moral, physical and ethical equivelent of being herded into a ditch and shot in the back of the head?
