Kim du Toit links to an interesting article.
It’s premise is this: there is a section of society that believes that taxes are too low. Obviously, most of these people believe that it should only be people who earn more than them who should pay more, and for this they should be given a Clue.
However, there is a sub-section who will quite happily say that their own taxes are too low. And, since these people obviously believe in the worthiness of the state, I think we should offer a state solution.
Like the one suggested in said article. ‘course, it’s USian, but I’m sure Her Majesty’s Customs & Revenue could knock up something similar.
The H.O.T. Tax would ease these statists? pain. The IRS simply would add a small box to the 1040 tax form beside these words: ?If you believe you should be taxed at a rate above that assigned to your income bracket, please indicate here the higher rate you prefer. Kindly calculate your tax liability, and send it in.?
With that easy step, congressional liberals and residents of Malibu and Martha?s Vineyard no longer would have to keep the tax cuts conservatives keep throwing their way. Instead, they could send 50, 75, or even 99 percent of their incomes to Washington, so the GOP, Congress, and President Bush can spend it even better than they can.
Brilliant! For all those who believe that more government is always the best way, this would allow them to donate more of their money towards such essential services as ever more essential admin staff, ever more
junkets fact finding missions, ever more awareness campaigns and ever more EU wastage. While the rest of us work hard to keep as much of our money in our pockets as possible.
Speaking of which, did yez see this? Blunkett seems to want to charge people to get left things by family members. So, does property belong to the owner, or is it really just on loan from the state? Hmmm?
Of course your property does not belong to you – the state can take it off you any time it wants. T’was always so.
Aye, if you’d done something wrong. Apparently, “owning your own home” is soon to be outlawed.
The bloke who is buying our place will pay 9 grand for selling his ‘second home’ i.e. the one his mother lives in, and he’ll be paying nearly 5 grand for the privilege of buying this place and I’ll let you know what we end up paying the govt when we sell but it’ll be a load. Still it beats having to wait until we’re all dead (when the state’ll have nother big payday.) Funnily enough I used to think this was all pretty cool when I had sweet F.A.
Sure you can’t take it with you, so isn’t it entirely fair that the state gets first dibs on everything you own. Before, y’know, your flesh and blood get a say.
Sigh! S’pose you’re right. The flesh & blood would only spend it foolishly anyway, food, drink, houses to live in. You know the usual frivolous stuff.
