Having had both I’d say go for the dog option every time. Dogs are easier trained, don’t live as long and are relatively inexpensive to keep. You can get them neutered and keep them outside all the time if you wish. They don’t require designer trainers, driving lessons, university educations or big flashy weddings.
It’s not as if today’s modern child is even prepared to look after the aged parental figure anyway….
