Finally got round to watching the SkyOne Colour of Magic. About which, if you remember, I had some misgivings. And I still think that David Jason isn’t the best possible Rincewind; nor is Sean Austin a perfect Twoflower.
On the other hand, the set design, the conceptual work and the story worked well. And the CGI was better than Hogfather.
But the ancillary characters were vastly better than I thought they would be; Tim Curry was perfectly cast as the scheming bastard and Jeremy Irons played the Patrician very well, including some affectations of his Pterry-ness in the voice and everything. Very good.
Plus, the Luggage actually ate a dwarf. Which was perfectly suited to the character, methinks…
But there were one or two difficulties with it. One, a few too many things not included. And two, some of the casting was just too too lazy: a lot of random background characters and people with a couple of short lines were the same folk who were in Hogfather in different roles. No need to just recycle actors, is there? I mean, this isn’t the Bill…
