Second the question

It’s common knowledge that the wonderful and sainted Obama gave Gordon Brown the DVDs that wouldn’t work on this side of the Atlantic. Do you think that the wonderful people in the White House protocol office thought that it’d be an idea to do it a bit better this time round?

Well, they have meant to, but it doesn’t seem to have worked out that way.

1750 The BBC’s Peter Hunt says: President Obama has given the Queen an Ipod during their private meeting at Buckingham Palace. It contains footage of her state visit to the US in May 2007.

Jaysus wept. The Queen is 82 freaking years old. Who thought that giving her an iPod was the way forward? Also: US iPods run on US electricity – 120 volts. Buckingham Palace, like every fecking building outside of America uses 220 volts. Do you think that they thought to include a transformed so that HRH can recharge the thing?

White House gifts office: you get a C- for 2009. Must try harder…

  1. Don’t diss the Queen young Edward. She may be 82 but I bet she knows her way round an IPod. As long as it’s a British IPod of course. And Harry should be able to programme the palace players to play yankee DVDs. After all, if I can do it anyone can.

  2. I have no doubt about HRH knowing her way around an iPod, but still, I don’t think that it counts as an ideal present for a head of state…

And we all know that you’re a total geek, Nelly. I doubt if there’s a gadget in north Antrim that you couldn’t work your way around.

  3. I think an IPod would be a totally awesome gift for a monarch. Didn’t we give the Obamas a tea towel and a candle for pity’s sake. That’s like something you’d get from Pearlie or Ganching, not a bloody nation.

Obama should have given Liz a boxed set of The Wire because at 82, I’d say she’s in bed with her cocoa and My Weekly by twenty past eleven. Even cool ol’ Queens have to sucuumb to their age sometimes.

Thanks for the comp about geekery. However my best gadget is still the garden spade.
