I really hope that it’s not over

Lord Mandleson would like it ot be known that the smears row is over.

The row over Labour smears has been “resolved” and ministers must focus on other issues, Lord Mandelson has said.

Lord Mandelson said the matter was now closed and no-one in government was implicated in Mr McBride’s dealings.

“That is where the matter, I believe, can rest.”

With the Budget days away, Lord Mandelson said ministers should not be “distracted” from the important tasks facing them.

I really do hope that the row isn’t over. For two reasons:

  1. I really like seeing the governing party getting the righteous kicking that they so deserve. It would be nicer if they were receiving an actual physical kicking to accompany it, but that might be too much to hope for.
  2. The government is currently distracted by the row; this means that they’re not concentrating on the economy, law and order, international relations or national security. Given that everything they concentrate on has been seriously damaged by their attentions, this can only be a good thing.

So, attack dogs of the press, continue with the assault. Drag out the Machiavellian bastards to the light, and do their best to beat them senseless. And keep them away from the jobs they’ve shown themselves to be so inadequate at.

It’s really the best thing for everyone involved.
