Gordon (and Alistair) have been busy spending our money frivolously for over a decade now. They’ve raised the odd tax, but they’ve been spending beyond our means for most of that.
I suspect that today will be the day that the hangover really kicks in. An unholy level of tax rises could be buried under a whole heap of waffle and lies about how those two are best placed to “lead us through the uncertainty”.
Basically, I expect that the giant wallet hoover will be rolled out very shortly. So I’ll be hitting the off-licence well beforehand and making sure that the car is full of petrol before the speech finishes.
