Ages come and go, legends are made and fade, great personalities emerge and then step back.

And so it is with Gary Neville. After twenty years of being one of the core United players, of pushing the club to some of the highs we’ve enjoyed, he’s stepping back.

Which is a shame, but then I suppose if you’ve got to go (and he’s getting to the age where he has to), then going while at the top of the table is hardly the worst thing that could happen…
